Number of Covid cases triple in Maldives

The number of Covid-19 cases triples in Maldives over the past week after being at a steady rate for a long period of time.

During the second week of June the number of positive cases recorded in Maldives was 142, including 50 cases in greater Male’ region, 40 cases from inhabited islands and the remaining 52 cases from resorts and other places.

As per the statistics by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), in the past week a total of 405 cases were recorded. From this, 231 cases were in the greater Male’ region, 95 cases were from inhabited islands and 79 from resorts and other areas.

Moreover, the number of patients hospitalized has also increased rapidly. Currently there are a total of 17 patients being treated at the hospital for Covid.

After a hiatus of three weeks, Maldives recorded a Covid related fatality as well. HPA identified the victim as a 56-year-old Maldivian woman who was being treated at Hulhumale’ Orange Facility.
