Weekly Covid update: Cases rise in Male’ area, fall in atolls

Statistics released by Health Protection Agency (HPA) show COVID-19 cases were higher in greater Male’ region last week, than all other residential islands combined.

Total 91 new cases were reported in Maldives in the one-week period from May 22-28. This included 40 cases from the greater Male’ region, 24 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 27 cases from other areas such as resorts and industrial islands.

Total new cases reported in Maldives and cases from residential islands outside Male’ last week were lower than the previous week, from May 15-21, while cases in the greater Male’ region and cases from other areas increased.

Maldives had recorded 102 new cases from May 15-21. The cases had included 25 cases from the greater Male’ region, 58 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 19 cases from other areas.

With the 91 new cases last week, Maldives now has 179,753 confirmed cases. 299 people have died from complications.
