In order to address obstructions currently faced in the safe management of waste – Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) has stated that they will only be collecting sorted waste starting from June 1.

Through a statement released on Thursday, the waste collection company has instructed Male’ area customers to sort by separately bagging domestic waste, biodegradable waste, plastic bottles and any other type of waste remaining that has not been named.

Meanwhile, customers from residential islands and resorts have been instructed to sort by separately bagging domestic waste, biodegradable waste, plastic bottles, metals, glass materials and any other type of waste remaining that has not been named.

“Requesting special attention to bag the aforementioned types of waste in a manner it does not mix with each other,” the statement read.

WAMCO reserves the right to refuse the collection of unsorted waste, and the right to fine customers who fail to sort and separate waste accordingly.

The waste collection company has also instructed its customers to opt for their Call and Pickup Service (CAPS) for bulky waste that does not classify as daily waste.
