Four-hour vehicle ban to be observed in Male’ City on Eid

A four-hour vehicle ban is to be observed in Male’ City on this year’s Eid-al-Fitr.

The decision to observe the vehicle ban was taken by Male’ City Council, in the 50th official meeting of the fourth session.

The proposal to designate a vehicle-free window was put forth by the Council’s North Maafannu member Aminath Yumna.

She has proposed a vehicle ban starting from 16:00pm in the evening to 20:00pm in the night, to allow only pedestrians on the streets.

Commenting on the designation of a vehicle-free window – Male’ City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said that the decision was taken following careful consideration of the areas which the ban would be in place.

In this regard, he detailed that the vehicle ban would not be applicable in Hulhumale’ in light of complaints received from the public during previous years.

Vehicle-free windows have been implemented in Male’ area in conjunction with Eids and other occasions in recent years.
