COVID-19: Maldives records 298 new cases in 24 hours

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Friday, announced 298 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 171,947.    

According to HPA, the 298 new cases include; 21 cases from the greater Male’ region, 247 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 28 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 419 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 156,871.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 14,766 active cases.      

There are 11 patients in hospitals.      

2,101 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 454 samples from the greater Male' region.

Maldives has recorded 297 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August, and began administering booster doses in October. 

As of present, 398,256 people have received their first dose and 371,198 people have been fully vaccinated, and 136,373 have received their booster dose.
