Maldives records over 130,000 tourist arrivals in January

Tourism Ministry’s statistics show that over 130,000 tourists visited the Maldives in the month of January.

As per the statistics, Maldives recorded a total of 131, 764 tourist arrivals in January. This is a 30 percent increase compared to the same period last year. During January, 4,250 tourist arrivals were recorded on an average per day.

Top 5 tourist markets in January:

Russia: 24,464

UK: 14,274

India: 11,438

Germany: 10, 655

Italy: 10, 545

Tourism Ministry’s statistics show that as of last Wednesday, a total of 139,555 tourists arrived in the Maldives.

The tourism industry had flourished last year after the losses incurred by the industry due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. In this regard, Maldives recorded over 1.3 million tourist arrivals last year.

Tourism Ministry’s aim for this year is 2 million tourist arrivals. The state budget for this year has forecasted that at least 1.6 million tourist arrivals will be recorded this year.
