Education Minister: Teachers' salary connected to nation's development

Minister of Education Dr Aishath Ali on Thursday stated that the income of teachers was connected to the development of the nation.

Her remarks came after President Ibrahim Mohamed announced the decision to increase salary for all staff in the education sector in May 2022. 

During his address at the Parliament’s opening session for 2022, the President stated that “The decision would see a 56 per cent rise in the salaries of graduate-level secondary school teachers from MVR 12,628 to MVR 19,740, excluding overtime.”

The minister noted that all staff working in the sector were joyous with the decision to increase salaries like never done before. 

She expressed gratitude towards the President on behalf of all those working in connection to schools. 

"Teacher's income is connected to the development of the nation. With this, I urge talented students to apply for teaching. For talented teachers to remain in the field."
