COVID-19: 2,689 new cases; 17,732 active cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Saturday, announced 2,689 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 133,288.     

According to HPA, the 2,689 new cases include; 1,296 cases from the greater Male’ region, 994 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 20 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 2,734 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 115,269.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 17,732 active cases.      

There are 53 patients in hospitals.      

7,013 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 3,445 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 38 percent. 

With the 2,689 new infections on Saturday, 18,311 people have tested positive over the last one-week period.  

January 29: 2,689 cases 

January 28: 2,510 cases 

January 27: 2,499 cases 

January 26: 2,813 cases 

January 25: 2,609 cases 

January 24: 2,707 cases 

January 23: 2,484 cases 

Maldives has recorded 274 COVID-19 deaths.
