COVID-19: 100 new cases; 1,952 active cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Monday, announced 100 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 94,057.      

According to HPA, the 100 new cases include; 22 cases from the greater Male’ region, 51 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 27 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 119 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 91,832.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,952 active cases.      

There are 12 patients in hospitals.      

3,443 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,081 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 2 percent. 

With the 100 new infections on Monday, 811 people have tested positive over the last one-week period.  

December 20: 100 cases 

December 19: 93 cases 

December 18: 131 cases 

December 17: 104 cases 

December 16: 97 cases 

December 15: 162 cases 

December 14: 124 cases 

Maldives has recorded 260 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August. 

As of Sunday, 396,410 people have received their first dose and 366,358 people have been fully vaccinated, and 22,473 have received their booster dose.
