Islamic Center built in memory of Dr. Afraasheem at Ungoofaaru inaugurated

The Islamic Center built in the memory of renowned Islamic scholar late Dr. Afrasheem Ali at his birth island, R. Ungoofaaru, has been officially inaugurated.

Named ‘Masjid Al-Dukhtur Afrasheem Ali’, the Islamic Center was inaugurated by Islamic Minister Dr. Ahmed Zahir Ali.

Islamic Ministry detailed that the Center was built for the purpose of religious teachings – for which it comprises four classrooms, a library, a pantry, an admin office and a meeting hall.

They further detailed that the two-story building also has a praying area measuring up to 5,380 square feet which can capacitate up to 900 worshippers at the time – including a separate area for women to pray and wudu.

The contract pertaining to the construction of this Islamic Center was signed on March 2, 2017 – following which physical work on the project commenced on the same day. The Center was completed on January 10, 2020.

This project worth MVR 27 million was funded by the state budget.
