Lease period of Maamigili Airport extended to 99 years

The government has decided to extend the lease period of Adh. Maamigili Airport to Chairman of Villa, Gasim Ibrahim, to 99 years.

Transport Minister Dr Ahmed Shamheed said that the decision was made at a meeting of the Economic Committee last week.

Dr Shamheed said that this decision was based on a decision of the government of former President Mohamed Nasheed.

The Economic Committee is made up of Transport Minister Dr Shamheed, Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shafeeu, Housing Minister Dr Mohamed Muizz, Environment Minister Mariyam Shakeela, Tourism Minister Ahmed Adheeb and Finance Minister Abdullah Jihad.

The airport, which is the first in the Maldives to be developed by a private group, was opened on 1 October 2011.
