Maldives’ COVID-19 death toll rises to 253

Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced on Saturday that a COVID-19 patient from HA. Thuraakunu has passed away. 

HPA identified the deceased as a 92-year-old Maldivian male. 

He passed away at 08:28 am. 

“This is the 253rd COVID-19 death in the Maldives,” confirmed HPA in a tweet.   

It also marks the second COVID-19 death on Saturday, and the third in December. 

The death of the COVID-19 patient in HA. Thuraakunu came barely an hour after a fatality was recorded in Dh. Kudahuvadhoo. 

Maldives has 91,993 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 100 new cases recorded on Friday. 90,003 patients have since recovered.     

The country currently has 1,726 active cases. 17 of the patients are hospitalized.
