Defense Minister Mariya embarks on official trip to India

Defense Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi captured during a previous visit to India in her official capacity.

Defense Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi, on Tuesday, has departed on an official trip to India.

High Commission of India in Maldives, via a tweet, said that Minister Mariya is visiting India for the purpose of officiating the review passing out parade at Indian Naval Academy. They also noted in their tweet that Minister Mariya will be the first foreign Defense Minister to officiate the parade.

The parade will be held at Kerala’s, Kannanoor, next Saturday.

In a tweet, a Public Relations Unit of India’s Defense Ministry based Kerala, said that Minister Mariya is visiting India for a period of three days. They also noted that she will be welcomed to the country senior officials from the Defense Ministry.

Minister Mariya will also be visiting India’s military training facilities and interact with Maldivian officers undergoing training in such facilities.

Minister Mariya has made several official trips to India during her tenure – where she has met with senior officials from India to discuss matters pertaining to defense.

In this regard, she traveled to India in June 2019, where she held discussions with her Indian counterpart. During this meeting, the installment of a Coastal Radar Surveillance System (CRSS) as part of the military ties between Maldives and India, was discussed.
