COVID-19: 219 new cases, 173 from atolls

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Wednesday, announced 219 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 88,277.

According to HPA, the 219 new cases include; 29 cases from the greater Male’ region, 173 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 17 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 98 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 86,040.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,981 active cases.      

There are 33 patients in hospitals.      

4,069 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,291 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at two percent.

Maldives has recorded 243 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August.

As of present, 394,699 people have received their first dose and 358,744 people have been fully vaccinated.
