Stage equipment for the foundation laying ceremony of airport

The stages and tents necessary for the foundation laying ceremony of the new terminal of Ibrahim Nasir Male’ International Airport, managed by GMR, have arrived in Maldives on a charter flight from Sri Lanka.

15 tons of equipment related to stage-building arrived early morning today. The ceremony is anticipated to be “groundbreaking”.

This has been confirmed by Mr Mahika Chandrasena, Media Official of GMR, who said that the stage equipment for the ceremony which will be attended by 400 guests, were ordered from Sri Lanka because they are not available in Male’.

When asked if stages cannot be produced in the Maldives, he said that their attempt to re-use stages from SAARC summit was unsuccessful, because the equipment necessary for a ceremony such as this one could not be obtained even from them. He further said that as the rehearsal for the ceremony is to be held today, time-constraint is also an issue.

The foundation laying ceremony is to be held tomorrow by setting-up tents on the East side of Hulhumale, in the area reclaimed by Heavy Load.
