The Department of Immigration and Emigration has said that over 2,000 foreign nationals working illegally in the Maldives have been repatriated.
Deputy Controller Hamid Fathulla said this today, in an interview with Sun Online.
“Efforts are underway to repatriate them. Their repatriation is financed not by the government, rather, by the deposit collected when they arrive in Maldives,” he said.
He informed that several illegal foreign nationals remain to be repatriated and under the supervision of the Immigration Department, due to lack of documents.
The problem of illegal workers remains unresolved and serious in the Maldives. Immigration Department signed an agreement with Island Aviation last month, as part of its efforts to repatriate illegal workers.
