COVID-19: 57 new cases, 34 from atolls

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Friday, announced 57 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 84,866.      

According to HPA, the 57 new cases include; 22 cases from the greater Male’ region, 34 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and one case from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 100 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 83,074.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,548 active cases.      

There are 24 patients in hospitals.      

2,940 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,073 from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at two percent.

Maldives has recorded 231 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August. 

As of present, 392,315 people have received their first dose and 339,481 people have been fully vaccinated.
