Maldives records 5th COVID-19 death in September

Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced on Saturday that a COVID-19 patient at Sh. Atoll Covid Management Facility in Sh. Funadhoo has passed away.

HPA identified the latest fatality as an 80-year-old Maldivian male.

He passed away at 02:30 pm this Saturday.

“This is the 231st COVID-19 death in the Maldives,” said HPA.

Funadhoo Hospital’s manager Ahmed Zumrath told Sun the patient was transferred to the Sh. Atoll Covid Management Facility from Sh. Milandhoo.

His death also marks the fifth COVID-19 fatality this September alone.

Maldives has 84,164 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 61 new cases recorded on Friday. 82,309 patients have since recovered.

The country currently has 1,612 active cases. 16 of the patients are hospitalized.
