Maldives Airport Company Limited (MACL) has announced that 99.9 percent of their employees have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine – out of which 89.3 percent of the employees are fully vaccinated.

MACL’s Airport Emergency Services kick-started an airport-wide vaccination program in collaboration with the Health Protection Agency (HPA) on March 21. The purpose of the program was to inoculate all employees working at Velana International Airport (VIA) – to include MACL staff, airline staff as well as contractors.

Under this program – 99.9 percent of the employees have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine out of which 89.3 percent have also received the second dose.

In addition to employees, a total of 1,716 VIA pass holders have also been fully vaccinated under the program – with 927 pass holders receiving the first dose.

“I am delighted that nearly all our staff are vaccinated. This is the most important thing we have done to ensure the safety our staff and passengers. I am proud to say that we are one of the very first airports to achieve this”, MACL’s CEO, Managing Director Gordon Andrew Stewart had remarked.

To ensure that VIA is safe space for everyone amidst the COVID-19 pandemic – the airport had maintained the highest of standards. As a result, in September 2020, VIA was bestowed the Health Accreditation Certificate by the Airports Council International (ACI) – becoming the 2nd airport from the Asian Pacific region to achieve this. On February 2021, VIA received ACI’s voice of the customer recognition award.
