The National Disaster Management Centre has notified Atoll Councils and Island Councils to inform the Centre of damage in all parts of Maldives caused by the squalls currently being experienced all over the country.
A press statement released by the Centre today requests islands to take necessary precautions against the bad weather, including protecting poorly-built roofs of buildings against strong winds, and storing household items in safe places before they are damaged by floods.
“We advise you to maintain cleanliness at waste areas to avoid diseases that can arise from flooding, and also to remove overhanging branches,” says the statement.
Heavy rain is being experienced all over the Maldives, affecting travel and causing damage to household items. The national meteorological centre, MET Office has said that weather will continue to be bad the next 24 hours.
