Maldives records first COVID-19 death in 19 days, raising total death toll to 223

A COVID-19 patient admitted at the Hulhumale’ Medical Facility has passed away. This is the first COVID-19 death recorded in the Maldives in a span of 19 days.

Sun can confirm the identity of the latest COVID-19 fatality as a 75-year-old Maldivian woman from AA. Himendhoo. She passed away this morning at 11:20 – while being treated at Hulhumale’ Medical Facility.

Her death increases the number of COVID-19 fatalities in the Maldives to 223.

Himandhoo Council President Husham Ismail had told Sun that the woman was transferred to Hulhumale’ Medical Facility for treatment on August 10.

A total of 250 people have tested positive for COVID-19 from Himandhoo – out of which 197 cases still remain active. 12 people tested positive from the island yesterday alone.

Husham also noted that two pregnant women from Himandhoo have been transferred to Male’ for further treatment upon testing positive.
