Maldives’ COVID-19 death toll rises to 210

A COVID-19 patient admitted at Hulhumale’ Medical Facility (HMF) passed away at 02:33 hours in the morning.

Sun is able to confirm the identity of the latest COVID-19 fatality as a 48-year-old male. His death increased the number of COVID-19 fatalities in the Maldives to 210.

While the Maldives saw an alarming surge in both infection rates and fatalities in both April and May, infection and fatality rates have since significantly dropped with the implementation of strict restrictive measures in May – especially in the Greater Male’ area.

Starting from June 16, the number of additional COVID-19 cases within the Male’ area has not exceeded 100. Within the last five days, the number has not exceeded 50.

At present, more cases are being recorded from inhabited islands outside of Male’.

As of June 28, the Maldives have confirmed 73,482 COVID-19 cases from which 69,378 COVID-19 patients have made full recoveries. The Maldives now has 3,883 active cases out of which 27 patients are being treated in hospitals.
