34-year-old dies, marking 208th COVID-19 death

A COVID-19 patient admitted at Hulhumale’ Medical Facility has passed away.

Sun is able to confirm the identity of the latest COVID-19 fatality as a 34-year-old Maldivian male.

He passed away this Thursday.

His death increases COVID-19 fatalities in Maldives to 208.

Maldives experienced an alarming surge in both infection rate and fatalities following the ease in restrictive measures in April. Infection and fatality rates have since begun dropping with the implementation of new restrictive measures in May.

Last May saw the highest number of COVID-19 fatalities in a single month, with 88 deaths. This June has seen 44 deaths.

Maldives has 72,678 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 212 new cases recorded on Thursday. 68,197 patients have since recovered.

The country currently has 4,262 active cases. 38 of the patients are hospitalized.
