With 2 new deaths, COVID-19 fatalities rise to 184

Health Protection Agency (HPA) confirms two COVID-19 patients died on early Sunday – both of whom were admitted at the Hulhumale’ Medical Facility.

The first fatality was a 93-year-old Maldivian male admitted at Hulhumale’ Medical Facility. He passed away at 12:47 am.

The second fatality was an 82-year-old Maldivian female admitted at Hulhumale’ Medical Facility. She passed away at 08:00 am.

With the two new deaths this Sunday, COVID-19 fatalities in Maldives now stands at 184.

Maldives has been experiencing a surge in both infection rate and fatalities in recent weeks.

Last May saw the highest number of COVID-19 fatalities in a single month, with 88 deaths.

Maldives has 67,538 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 590 new cases recorded on Sunday. 47,333 patients have since recovered.

The country currently has 20,014 active cases. 191 of the patients are hospitalized.

The surge in cases has prompted health authorities to tighten restrictions, both in the populous Male’ City area and other residential areas with confirmed COVID-19 cases.
