Canada will also supply the Maldives with COVID-19 vaccines through the COVAX facility.
Canadian High Commissioner to the Maldives and Sri Lanka David McKinnon tweeted today that the Maldives and Sri Lanka will be among nations to receive aid from Canada through the COVAX facility.
He said that Canada had donated CAD 220 million to the COVAX facility and that he was pleased that the Maldives and Sri Lanka will be among the nations to benefit from the donation.
McKinnon did not, however, specify the exact amount of vaccines that the Maldives or Sri Lanka will be receiving, what kind of vaccines, or when the vaccines will be received by the Maldives or Sri Lanka.
The Maldives has so far approved only the Covishield vaccine, Sinopharm vaccine, Pfizer vaccine, and the Sputnik V vaccine. The Health Ministry is yet to comment on the donation and supply of vaccines through COVAX.
Apart from Canada, The United States of America has also pledged to assist the Maldives with vaccines. The US today even supplied medical equipment to the Maldives.
