Committee to summon Attorney General for failure to implement Archives Act

The Parliament’s Government Accountability Committee has decided to summon Attorney General Azima Shakoor to for questioning regarding failure to implement the Archives Act.

The law on archives has been ratified by the President and published on the Government Gazette.

The case was presented to the Committee by Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) Manadhoo MP Mohamed Thorig.

The Committee also decided to summon Cabinet Secretary Dr Abdullah Nazeer for questioning on the same issue.

The Committee has not yet decided on a date to summon them.

Kulhudhuffushi-uthuru MP Abdul Gafoor Moosa told Sun Online yesterday that the Committee made the decision to summon Azima Shakoor and Abdullah Nazeer because the Archives Act is not being properly implemented.

Gafoor said that the decision was passed at yesterday’s meeting with the votes of five members in favour.

The Committee also decided to summon three Hulhumale’ Court Judges for questioning on the report of the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI).
