President of Civil Service Commission (CSC) Mohamed Fahmy Hassan has said that no current civil service employee has ever misused public funds.
He made this statement while speaking at the Civil Service Innovation Award ceremony held yesterday.
He said that misuse of public funds is a crime, and such accusations can ruin a person’s reputation and honour.
“Under no circumstance should such accusations be used to ruin a person’s reputation and honour,” he said.
He said that such rumours are spread by various groups, but no action can be taken against a person unless the accusations can be proven.
He urged political groups and the media to refrain from making unfounded claims without verifying information.
He said that it is a problem, that civil servants sometimes act as activists who lead political parties, and stressed that civil service employees should be dedicated to providing public services in cooperation with the government, regardless of the government that exists at a particular time.
He called on the parliament to revise the law such that civil servants cannot participate in political activities.
“I hope that this is passed by the parliament soon. It can destroy the entire basis of the civil service, if civil service employees participate in political activities,” he said.
Referring to the reimbursement of civil service salaries that were deducted by the former government, he said that other issues will be resolved once the salaries are reimbursed.
He informed that efforts are under way to evaluate employees, to ensure their development.
Fahmy expressed hope that, with this introduction of innovative methods, civil service operations will be improved.
