Mariyam Naifa, who was among the six people arrested for the murder of Ungoofaaru MP Dr Afrasheem Ali, has been released following a Criminal Court Order.
Sun Online has received credible information that the key activist of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) was released on the condition that she cooperates with the investigation, and that she remains in Male’.
Police have not confirmed her release.
Sun Online understands that Criminal Court added 15 days this evening, to the detention period of Ali Hashim (Smith) and Hassan Humam, also arrested over suspicion of involvement in the murder.
Details of the remaining three detainees are not yet known.
MDP supporters gathered near Justice Building when the suspects were taken to Court today. In their efforts to disperse the crowd, Police took one protester who refused to obey orders under arrest.
Police have not revealed any details of the murder case, as doing so might obstruct the investigation.
Police Commissioner Abdullah Riyaz said at a recent press conference that MVR500,000 will be offered to any person who provides substantive information on the murder that can lead to a prosecution. Police have also assured that people who provide information will be protected.
