Passport will remain with owner even when withheld: Immigration Controller

Controller of Immigration and Emigration Dr Mohamed Ali has said that a passport will remain with its owner even though it is withheld.

Dr Mohamed Ali said that a passport being withheld means that the warning system will show that the person cannot exit the country.

“Passport being withheld means that when the passport is read, the warning system will show that the person cannot depart from the country. The passport will still be with its owner,” he said.

Dr Mohamed Ali said that the Department of Immigration and Emigration had received Hulhumale’ Court’s travel ban against former President Mohamed Nasheed, and that it will follow this Court order.

Nasheed, while speaking at last night’s Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) rally to mark the end of the party’s campaign trip Journey of Pledges, held at Addu City’s Equatorial Convention Centre, said that media reports that his passport had been withheld are not true, and that his passport is still with him.
