The Maldives Association for Construction Industry (MACI) has sent a letter to Minister of Economic Development, Ahmed Mohamed, requesting for solutions to the problems faced by the construction industry of Maldives.
The letter, sent by President of MACI Mohamed Ali Janah last Wednesday, said that problems are being faced by stakeholders in the construction industry due to fluctuations in commodity and currency prices.
“These issues need to be solved as soon as possible. It is a great wish of the industry that these problems are solved,” says the letter.
MACI also requested for solutions through the establishment of regulations, to problems such as delays in receiving payments for contractors’ bills, failure by project owners to provide compensation to contractors when making payments after the deadline, safety measures, and employment of illegal foreign labour.
