The case of The Assistant Registrar who was dismissed from work has been submitted to the Employment Tribunal.
The employee dismissed from the post of Assistant Registrar of Supreme Court is Fathimath Latheef of Dh. Kudahuvadhoo Ankara. She was dismissed on 15 September 2011.
At a news conference held today after the case was submitted to the Tribunal, Fathimath’s Lawyer Mr Mohamed Fareed said that her dismissal was provoked by a letter sent by Fathimath to the Supreme Court, in which she opposed the Supreme Court’s decision that the Registrar’s duties should be carried out by the Secretary General.
“Fathimath stated in the letter that she can no longer fulfill her duties as the Registrar, as the Supreme Court had taken the decision the duties of the Registrar shall be carried out by the Secretary General. This was the reason behind her dismissal,” said Fareed.
Fareed said that as an employee, should a negative situation arise at the work place, one has the right to express how they feel with regard to that situation. As such Fathimath’s dismissal is a violation of the Supreme Court’s rules, Employment Law and Courts’ Law.
Fareed, who was a key figure in the two forums titled “Story of the Supreme Court”, said that the submission of Fathimath’s case to the Tribunal was delayed because you are allowed a time period of 90 days from the date of dismissal from your job.
Fareed has previously been involved in cases to argue that Dr Ahmed Abdulla Didi, the Judge of the Supreme Court, is incapable and does not fulfill the prerequisites to hold the post of a Judge.
