Felipe Caicedo scores two, Ecuador beats Chile 3-1

QUITO, Ecuador (AP) — Felipe Caicedo scored either side of halftime and Segundo Castillo added a late goal as Ecuador defeated Chile 3-1 on Friday in South American World Cup qualifying.

Caicedo scored in the 32nd and 56th minutes as Ecuador improved to 16 points from eight matches, putting it among the leaders in the qualifying group.

Chile took a 1-0 lead with an own-goal in the 24th minute by Ecuador defender Juan Carlos Paredes. Paredes sent the ball into the net as he tried to clear a cross from Mauricio Isla.

Chile has 12 points in eight matches.
