Maldives’ COVID-19 death toll rises to 44

Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced on Monday that a COVID-19 patient hospitalized in the Hulhumale’ Medical Facility has passed away.

HPA identified the deceased as a 52-year-old Maldivian male.

He has being treated at the Intensive Care Unit of Hulhumale’ Medical Facility, and passed away at 11:32 pm on Sunday.

“This is the 44th #COVID19 death in the Maldives,” announced HPA.

It marks the second COVID-19 fatality on the same day and the fourth within a week’s span.

Maldives has 12,204 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 50 new cases recorded on Sunday. 11,289 patients have since recovered, and the country currently has 865 active cases.

47 of the patients are hospitalized.
