President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik and First Lady Madam Ilham Hussain have met with the family of late Dr Afrasheem Ali, Parliament Member for Ungoofaaru constituency.
Sun Online understands that the President went to the residence of Dr Afrasheem’s family, H. Funvilu, as soon as he arrived in Male’ from his week-long holiday in the US.
The President and First Lady spent about one hour with Dr Afrasheem’s family.
During the meeting, the President extended his condolences to the family and highlighted Dr Afrasheem’s invaluable services in the parliament and in spreading religious awareness in the country.
In a statement released by the President’s Office following Dr Afrasheem’s death, the President condemned the act in the strictest terms, and said that it was with deep distress and profound sadness that he learnt of the attack on Dr Afrasheem.
He also said that the government will exercise all its tools in bringing to justice, those responsible for this act of brutality.
The President will return to work tomorrow after his first holiday since he assumed the post of President.
