Canadian judicial team begins workshop in Maldives

A workshop aimed at improving the judicial sector has begun in Male’, in collaboration with Canada.

The Department of Judicial Administration has informed that the workshop commenced at Nalahiya Hotel this morning is entitled Judicial Independence Accountability and Professionalism. Canadian experts will provide information at the work shop on the Canadian legal and judicial administrative system.

Judges of the High Court, Supreme Court, Magistrate Courts; officials of the Prosecutor General’s Office, Attorney General’s Office, Maldives Police Service; and some lawyers will participate in this workshop.

Information will also be provided on judicial independence and accountability, and ways to ensure that the two responsibilities do not conflict with one another.

The Canadian judicial team which arrived in Maldives on 30 September have held meetings with members of the Maldivian judicial sector.
