The Ibrahim Nasir International Airport in Malé has resumed operations after 9 hours of closure following an incident last night.

The wheel tires of an Emirates Airline plane landing gear burst out last night immediately after the plane landed at the Airport.

Media Official Mahika Chandrasena at GMR, the Indian company managing the Airport said today that operations of the Airport were temporarily terminated following the incident, and that four flights were delayed, causing 700-800 passengers to remain at the Airport.

According to Chandrasena, the flights that were delayed were an Emirates flight, a Sri Lankan Airways flight, a Malaysian Airline flight, and a Singapore Airlines flight.

Chandrasena also said that the wheels of the plane in the incident had been replaced and that it had flown this morning. The equipment for replacing the tire were brought from Dubai via Colombo.
