Six people have been arrested in N. Holhudhoo, after they attacked and tried to obstruct the police officers who were investigating a gang-fight in the island.
A police media official said today that the incident occurred on the night of Thursday last week. He said that a team of police officers stationed at N. Manadhoo, a nearby island, went to Holhudhoo to investigate the case. However, the six persons arrested attacked the officers and tried to prevent them from discharging their duties. In the attack, police officers were injured, one of them seriously.
Police media official said that additional police officers were sent from R. Atoll Police Station to bring the situation in Holhudhoo under control.
The police also informed that the fight in Holhudhoo occurred between two gangs.
The ages of arrested individuals have been disclosed as 52, 20, 21, 25, 26, and 28. However, their names have not been revealed.
Holhudhoo Council informed that the gang-fight occurred on Thursday night, around 9 pm near the island’s football ground. However, the Council said that the cause of the fight was not known. The Council also informed that all six persons arrested by the police later were from Holhudhoo.
