Felivaru Maldives Chairman Imthiyaz dismissed following corruption allegations

Chairman of Felivaru Fisheries Maldives, Mohamed Imthiyaz has been dismissed from work under corruption allegations.

Government Spokesperson Abbas Adil Riza said that the allegations against Imthiyaz include that he released several tuna cans on credit under the name of a company that did not even exist.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has indicated that it is investigating corruption allegations against Imthiyaz, which pertains to taking tuna cans on credit to his private shop.

Imthiyaz, who is currently in Dubai, said that he was not yet aware that he had been let go.

He stressed that he had not conducted any corrupt activity that should result in his dismissal.

Imthiyaz also acts as the Registrar General of Jumhooree Party (JP), and was appointed as Chairman of Felivaru Fisheries Maldives following nomination by JP.

The Managing Director and two members of the Board of Directors of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) were also dismissed last Sunday following corruption allegations.
