The President has appointed Ibrahim Moosa Luthfee (Sandhaan Luthfee) as an advisor at the President’s Office.
The salary of the post of Advisor, which is a State Minister level post, is MVR 32,000.
Luthfee was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2002 during former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s administration.
He has resided in Switzerland for many years, and travelled to Maldives last month on a holiday.
He is currently in Maldives, but his family resides in Switzerland.
Luthfee was involved in reform measures with former President Mohamed Nasheed; however, heavily criticised Nasheed towards the end of his administration.
Nasheed had pardoned the sentences against Luthfee.
With Luthufee’s appointment, the number of advisors to the President has reached four. They are Ahmed Ibrahim Didi (Sandhaan Ahanmaidhy), Dr Hassan Saeed and Ahmed Thaufeeq (Topy).
