Home Minister Sheikh Imran Abdulla, on Tuesday, said that the Maldivian community needed to be patient if it were to overcome the COVID-19 outbreak soon.
The Maldivian government has implemented a number of measures to curb the spread of the new coronavirus within the country. It includes a nationwide ban on non-essential travel, closure of schools and public offices, and a lockdown on the capital – the epicenter of the outbreak in Maldives.
Imran, on Tuesday morning, re-tweeted a post by Health Protection Agency (HPA) which urges the community to “stay home, save lives” despite the associated hardships.
We, the Maldivian community, must put patience above all and work together towards our common-goal if we are to overcome this situation soon,” commented Imran. “Almighty Allah, please save us from this pandemic.”
Health authorities have warned that the Maldivian health system will be overwhelmed if virus cases rise exponentially.
They project a significant surge in virus cases by the end of May, and have urged the community to remain vigilant in compliance with social distancing measures.
Maldives has 1,106 confirmed cases. 74 have recovered, and four have died from complications.
