Government subsidies have seen electricity bills in the country receive a substantial reduction in the month of April.
The government has previously decided to provide a 40 percent subsidy for electricity bills for the month of April and May as the income of businesses and individuals in the country have taken a strong hit due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, some members of the public have stated that they were not subject to subsidies as the electricity bills for the month of April are being received by households. The reason for this is that the electricity usage in the month of Ramadan is significantly higher compared to other months, and since the month of Ramadan began in late April, the usage for the month of April is higher.
The easiest way to view this is by checking the electricity usage for the month of April and comparing it with other months of the year. However, households with an average usage of electricity were able to easily distinguish the difference in bills due to the subsidy.
The subsidies are in place for the month of May as well. The government has also announced a 30 percent subsidy on water bills due to the virus.
