Will stop all projects that encourage corruption: ACC

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has said that it will halt all project that are suspected of involving corruption, regardless of whether investigations on that project are completed.

President of ACC Hassan Luthfee said in an interview with Sun Online, that the recent High Court ruling shows that the ACC has the authority to halt projects based on the estimated losses to the government arising from suspicions of corruption.

However, the Supreme Court’s annulment of the High Court ruling showed that the ACC does not have the authority to halt projects.

ACC said back then, that it had lost most of its powers, and that there is no point in an Institution such as ACC existing.

Luthfee said that despite the Supreme Court ruling implying that corruption-suspected projects can be resumed, most Institutions had respected ACC’s orders and not resumed their projects.

Luthfee expressed confidence that most Institutions respect ACC’s decisions, in spite of the Supreme Court’s ruling.

President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik recently said that the purpose of ACC is not to halt projects.
