Airport goods clearance charge to increase following GMR fee

Airport goods clearance companies have decided to increase their charges from 1 October 2012, following the imposition of a fee by airport operator GMR on goods clearance.

The notice being sent to customers by goods clearance groups states that the charge per kg of goods cleared will be increased from MVR0.5 to MVR1 from 1 October.

Sun Online understands that the goods clearance groups have agreed to pay a concession fee of MVR0.5 per kg to GMR.

No fee was imposed for goods clearance by GMR until now, or when the airport was operated by Airports Company.

Sun Online also understands that the employees of goods clearance groups will become employees of GMR from 1 October.

It has not been possible to contact the goods clearance groups or GMR in relation to this matter.
