Muhammad Nazim, the Minister of Defence and National Security, has been appointed as Ameerul Hajj, or the Leader of the Pilgrims, for Maldivian pilgrims this year.
The President’s Office informed that Minister Nazim was appointed as Ameerul Hajj by President Dr. Mohammed Waheed Hassan Manik.
While 8 different groups have been authorized in the Maldives to carry pilgrims to the Holy City of Makkah for the pilgrimage this time, the quota set for the Maldives is 1000.
Pilgrimage Groups registered 500 more pilgrims and accepted their payments, assuming that the Saudi Government would allow 500 more than the set quota, as it did the last year.
However, there has been no additional allowance over the quota this year, and those 500 people have not been unable to participate in the pilgrimage this year. The Groups will be making refunds.
