MDP National Council passes resolution advising non-participation in Parliament, on issues related to CNI

Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) National Council has advised its Parliamentary Group not to participate in any activities at the Parliament other than passing the budget for next year.

This comes before any discussions are scheduled at the Parliament, on the recommendations mentioned the report of the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI).

This decision was made at the 110th meeting of the MDP National Council held last night at Male’ City Hall.

The resolution was submitted by MP Hassan Afeef, and passed unanimously with the votes of all the members present at the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, former President Mohamed Nasheed stressed the importance of establishing an independent committee for the purpose conducting a criminal investigation of the issues noted in the report.

Afeef said while presenting the resolution that the government has ignored some parts of the report, and supported the idea of establishing a committee as suggested by Nasheed. He also said that the Parliament must remain halted until the issues highlighted in the CNI’s report are investigated.

The resolution also advises MDP Parliamentary Group Members to fully participate in the Parliament, if efforts are made to address the issues mentioned in the CNI’s report.
