Met office: Eclipse visible despite cloudy skies

The solar eclipse on display today will be visible from all the regions of the country despite the cloudy skies, according to Maldives Meteorological Services (Met Office)

Met Office stated that the visibility of the eclipse will be most affected due to clouds over the capital Male’ region. The eclipse is still visible for residents of Male’ city to witness and has already begun. An astronomy organization named Maldives Amateur Astronomers Society (MAAS) stated that the eclipse would be visible from 7:38 to 10:32 in the morning, with 8:56 being the perfect time to view the eclipse.

Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom was one of the people who tweeted about the eclipse and its visibility in the capital Male' city.

For the northern regions of the country, the eclipse would be visible from 8:51 while the southern regions would be able to view the eclipse by 9:01. Northern regions will have the best viewpoints, with almost 75 percent of the eclipse visible to islands in the north while the central regions will be able to view 67 percent. The southern regions will be able to see 58 percent of the eclipse.

Salat ul-Kusuf performed during a solar eclipse was already planned for 8:50 in the morning by the Islamic Ministry in all the regions of the country. The prayer was conducted in the Islamic Center in Male’ city.
