Foreign groups will continue efforts until an early election is held: MDP

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has said that efforts will be continued by foreign groups until an early election is held in the Maldives.

MDP’s Spokesperson Imthiyaz Fahmy said that the international community’s focus remains on Maldives.

He said in an SMS sent to media last night, that efforts by foreign groups will continue until an early election is held and human rights are protected in the Maldives.

A meeting of the Commonwealth’s Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) will be held in New York on 28 September.

The Maldives has requested the issue of Maldives be removed from the CMAG’s agenda.

This issue was supposed to be addressed at CMAG’s meeting held yesterday, but no decision has yet been made.
