Yellow alert issued over northern Maldives

Maldives Meteorological Service has issued yellow alert over the four northern-most atolls of Maldives with the warning of torrential rain and strong winds.

The yellow alert will be in effect over H. A. Atoll, H. Dh. Atoll, Sh. Atoll and N. Atoll from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm.

Maldives Meteorological Service has warned that winds may gust up to 45 miles per hour during showers.

Fairly widespread rain with isolated heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected across Maldives over the next 24 hours.

Winds are forecasted to be southwest/westerly at 8-18 miles per hour in southern atolls and 13–23 miles per hour elsewhere.

Meanwhile, seas are expected to be moderate becoming rough during showers.

Maldives Meteorological Service has announced that the current bad weather affecting the country is monsoon rain, and is not connected to the tropical cyclone ‘Hikaa’ in the Arabian Sea.
