No institution can stop Border Control System project any more: Controller of Immigration

Controller of Immigration Dr Mohamed Ali has said that following yesterday’s ruling by Supreme Court, the Border Control System project cannot be halted by any institution any more.

The Border Control System project is a collaboration between the Immigration Department and Malaysia’s Nexbiz.

Speaking to reporters today, Dr Mohamed Ali said that work on the project had been resumed following Civil Court’s ruling that Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) does not have the authority to order to halt the project.

He noted however that the project, while it was near completion, had been halted until now following a High Court Order to do so.

He highlighted that the project is complete except for minor final installations, which means that services using this system will commence shortly.

A team from Nexbiz is planned to arrive in Male’ during the weekend.

Mohamed Ali said that the problem of having to wait in long queues will be solved once the new system is introduced.

Moreover, it would also solve the problem of deported foreign nationals entering Maldives using forged passports.
