Report shows that Nasheed and his supporters make false accusation: Police

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has said that the report of the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI) has revealed that the recent accusations being made by former President Mohamed Nasheed and his allies are false.

A press statement issued by the MPS today states that the actions of the Police on 7 February showed that nation comes first, and that they will not hesitate to obey and uphold the law.

The statement says that the courage and resolute actions of Police Officers on that day will serve as exemplary models for future employees of the Police Force.

MPS noted with pride, the determination of Police Officers over the past few months, when they were faced with constant harassment and attacks on them and their families.

The statement says that the Police are under oath to make sacrifices in order to serve the people, uphold the Constitution and protect public property; and that they will remain with courage and determination to fulfil these responsibilities.

MPS vowed to respect citizens and be unbiased in their services.

They also promised that the incidents of 6, 7 and 8 February noted in CNI’s report will be reviewed, to ensure that similar incidents are not repeated in the future, and indicated that they will cooperate with Independent Institutions in taking the necessary action in relation to those activities.

The statement says that the services of Police will go on for as long as the Maldives exists, and any person’s efforts to ruin the reputation of the institution, for personal gains, will result in losses to the entire nation.
